Corn

Corn fuels the growth of nations around the world as a food ingredient, a feedstock, a fuel, a fiber, an ingredient in building materials and pharmaceuticals, and much more. There are currently more than 4,200 different uses for corn products and more are being found each day. Texas is the 12th corn producing state in the nation, with more than 2 million planted acres in 2009. Both the Texas Corn Producers Board and the Corn Producers Association of Texas are headquartered in Lubbock, Texas, and these organizations are responsible for coordinating research, education, promotion and policy for the Texas corn industry.


Corn planting usually begins around the end of February in Texas, and is most active in March and April. Planting usually concludes by May 15, although depending on weather could stretch into the summer months. In Texas, there is a large window for corn harvest, again depending on weather, however it usually begins sometime in late August.
